Our Vineyard

Rising from the Ashes

Inspired by a visit to southern Tuscany Peter, and Denise both fell in love with the tranquility of the countryside and views of the beautiful vineyards. A wildfire destroyed their avocado grove in 2007, and this prompted them to replace it with 3600 grapevines in June 2008. Denise released her first wines in 2012.

The winery is perched high above San Pasqual Valley’s San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido’s Highland Valley Wine Country, Altipiano is family owned and operated artesian boutique vineyard and winery surrounded by Denise & Peter’s Tuscan Villa complete with a Tasting Room, Winemaker’s Library, Barrel Room and a Winery production facility. Shaded, welcoming patios, umbrella-covered tables, fountains, and terraced gardens line the handsome Tuscan-inspired property that invites guests to sit, sip and take in the majestic, compelling landscape and a focus on Italian varietals.
